Yurrul Collection Earrings 2024
$25.00 – $29.00
Meaning ‘seed’ in Gamilaraay language, yurrul is a symbol for my journey in learning language. In recent years I have been actively learning and reclaiming language, where I associated my language acquisition to gathering and planting yurrul on dhawun (Country), always nurturing to activate growth. Speaking off dhawun has its challenges, however, thinking of those who came before me whose language was taken away from them, drives me to do more. Speaking language on dhawun feels so familiar, as if dhawun knows what I am saying and communicates back through our connection.
Dhawun is gayaa (happy) when I am speaking language.
There are many a yurrul along this journey that grow particularly when embedding language in my every day. Each yurrul is sown when language is spoken and grows me closer to culture, dhawun and my Ancestors. I feel my Ancestors are gayaa every time I learn and guwaa-li (speak) language, and as I pass on to my birralii-gaal (children),
I feel a great sense of reclamation of who we are and who we were meant to be.
Language is culture. Language is dhawun. Language is identity.
And my voice is the catalyst for growth and change.
